Report from the village

We are really far from Ukraine, if you are wondering if we might stray across the border, much closer to Berlin, Germany, in fact. It seems to be a relaxed pace here, there's only one traffic light in Nowogard!

However, we have had exciting news from Nikolaipolia. The wheat harvest has happened. Max says it is good, but of course, not as good as last year when we had exceptional weather. Here's some photos, Garry says it looks like the combine is one from the village. The grain is being stored as the price of grain in Ukraine is a fraction of world price because they can't get it out of the country. It's a good thing the new storage Quonset was built last year. It's like the farm has everything it needs to survive this time.

Including management, with Yana watching over the herd, Max the farm and Oleg and Elena the students we feel everything is under control while we can't be there. Even the honey has been harvested and the bee numbers are growing, a swarm was added to our hives this summer, thanks to Pastor Ivan. Now they are busy baling straw.

We also found out that Alonya gave birth in the hospital, a girl named Sofia. Here's a photo of them with Nikolai and Oleg and Elena when they picked them up at the maternity hospital in Zaparosia a few days after she was born. I think she was born on Canada Day.
