The Sea

We went by train Monday (a day off) to the Baltic Sea. I did get my feet wet but it was rather cool and windy. A few people were swimming, and we enjoyed walking around, people watching, Garry even had a nap in the sand. We had flounder for lunch, it was a little tricky to get off the bones.

Interestingly we walked through a forest of tall trees to get to the sea from the town, and at lunchtime walked around the 1945 lighthouse (rebuilt after being destroyed in the war) built on top of an 18th century fort (built on the ruins of an older fort). You could go up the lighthouse for a
minimum fee, but the line was very long.

I enjoyed checking out the fields as the train made it's way to our destination, Kolobrzeg. Wheat, canola, potatoes, grass with wildflowers/hayfields and oats in order of numbers of fields we saw, there were many stops along the route.

Here in Poland the wheat is not harvested yet. They are done back in the village in Ukraine, and it's stored in the old Quonset. Max said they are able to buy brewers grain at a cheap price and are bagging it for the winter, and they plan to make all the corn into silage. The corn is about two meters tall and the sunflowers are starting to bloom now. They got two good rains after the combine was done, so all is well in Nikolaipolia.
