A little rain must fall...

On Wednesday evening I said it might rain, and it did ... Thursday morning the ground was wet with the famous trace amounts. However the forecast was finally looking like we could get some significant rainfall for the thirsty corn fields (Garry is not sure if it will help the field that was planted after the rye came off- he thinks that the seed sprouted there and then withered up with no moisture- WE'LL SEE IF ANYTHING COMES UP AFTER THE WET WEATHER... but the other fields are knee high and need a drink.)

Friday night's forecast of 80% chance of thunderstorms (actually the next 5 days the chance of thunderstorms - with 4 plus mm of wet stuff- range from 50% to 80%)looked really promising, so Garry was disappointed to wake up at 4:30 this morning and look outside (it's light before 4 am)and see dry ground.
However the rain started (no thunder and lightning) around 7 am when the heifers went out to the field for the day with the village herd, and fell steadily until around 10 am, sometimes pretty hard. Now the sun is shining again.

The little kittens were confused as they didn't know what was happening outside, as they tried to get in or out of the door. Garry is on a somewhat successful campaign to turn then into outdoor cats all the time. But they are so cute when they are playing...

Seth and Jonah are finishing up the final schoolwork- right now Jonah is writing the chemistry final exam and Seth did his last math test this morning. This afternoon they switch tests to finish, and then Seth has three English papers/tests to do. Then they can pack for the trip to Kiev early Monday morning which will get them to Winnipeg at 10:30 at night (with the time zone changes- they land in Toronto 2 hours after taking off from Frankfurt) where their sister is picking them up.

We we lucky in getting the pile of laundry they collected (4 loads) dry outside yesterday since it looked like rain most of the day (I'm sure Garry would not have minded wet clothes.)Garry drove to Saloanie yesterday to pick up his milk money and came back with a bag full of strawberries - to make jam- and I thought all I had to do was make pizza for dinner. He did hull them for me and I cooked up four batches of jam- most of which went into the freezer- about two 500 ml jars per batch. He even went out to the garden and picked a few little ones to finish off the final batch at 6 pm- then I made the pizza for Lois and Clark. Jonah was excited that we got to the Project Jimmy Olsen show before they left for Manitoba. More in the fall.

The car is getting a few things fixed on it right now, so it should be ready to go. Turns out that the belt that broke was the 60 grivna belt instead of the 200 grivna one and only lasted 15,000 kms. This time they are working on something that was bent in the steering- maybe from when Garry hit the curb in the fog last fall. We'll be sitting on the new seat covers Maxim bought while Garry was in Canada (it's still a Lada underneath them- there is a plastic liner for the back- perfect to catch spilled milk- which is the most impressive part of the reno- nothing smells worse than old milk in a hot car- now we can clean up easily if there is a leak.)

With any luck it will be muddy and raining as we drive away early Monday morning for the 2 pm flight.
