Finally fresh--- piva travena

look this is post 300-wow that's a lot of writing (and photos) Here's the old rosebush blooming under the grape vines by the "car" driveway.

Today the brewers' grain was supposed to finally come (we ran out on Friday morning) and it actually did arrive this afternoon. The load was fresh and hot (see the steam rising from the pit as the truck dumps it in? They must be making beer today, this stuff was soaking for the weekend, I bet. Garry took some in to feed the cows right away - they were eating it even if it was warm enough to sting when it fell on Garry's feet.

Check out the Ukrainian work shoes- Garry and the building team thought it was funny when the local guys shoveled hot slag in flipflops last May- now look at Garry's feet!

As of eight pm twelve people have been in to buy brewers' grain (piva travena piva is the Russian word for beer) to feed their animals. And the knocking on the door keeps happening- Garry has to answer the door since Maxim has gone home to visit his family for a couple days. On Sunday an old man who is so crippled that Garry always helps him fill his bags up came in and asked when we'd finally get some more because he had nothing to feed (we had stopped selling on Thursday and thought we'd have some by Friday...then Saturday...maybe Sunday...didn't believe it was really coming until the truck drove in!)

Today Victor was out and took home the cheese that was made from Saturday's milk - there was 400 liters that got a little warm when the compressor was not working- so the neighbor separated it for cream and cheese (when it started to cool after it was fix it started making little butter balls in the tank.)

Today Garry sold some milk, and got paid for milk that was sold long ago. Now only one bigger loan to one seller is outstanding- he had to pay for his stall at the market (they did improvements at the market by building covered stalls and then charged the vendors 3000 grivna to keep their spot.) Tuesday we are supposed to get paid for the milk that went in the truck last week. Maybe Garry will be able to buy the generator for when the power goes out. Of course it has not been a problem lately - no thunderstorms- the most common cause of power outtages here. However lack of rain is starting to hurt the crops.

there is a chance of rain in this week's forecast- hopefully it comes or the corn fields will be done for. Here's Garry's field by the highway as we drove past on Sunday- it looks no worse than most cornfields around, and better than some.
