Busy Day and making hay

This morning Garry worked on cementing the bottom of the larger pit for brewers' grain. Yesterday one of Maxim's friends worked on digging out the bottom level (it was two of three pits but the wall between fell down between) - one part was deeper than the other before but now it will be level and cemented. There is a new truckload coming on Friday, so it will have time to dry. The smaller pit still has brewers' grain in, but it's going fast- there were two more new customers yesterday. I took this photo last Thursday of one customer going out the driveway with his (their) load.

School is over for the year in the village, except for cleanup, and repairs, which the students have been doing. Tonight Maxim was going to camp out by the Dniper river with some of the older students and teachers. Every night the kids play in the street until the cows come home, many of them help with chores after the cows come back.

This afternoon the boys had their dentist appointment to get the retainers at 5 pm, but first Garry and Max picked up some grass Max had cut this morning to feed the cows for the next couple days, since we are out of that nice alfalfa from the garden plot (production may drop off from the high of 777 liters a day.)We saw some people making hay along the highway on the way in.

In the morning Maxim will cut more grass in another village to make more hay. When they got back with the load I told them Victor had called about the size of the replacement blades for the rotary mower- two broke and they had to hunt for some to buy. The dealer where they bought it does not do service or carry any parts- in fact they told Garry when he bought it that they could not tell him where to buy parts for the mower. Victor met us at the dentist with a set from the market- they will change them all for the new ones and save the "good ones" for repairs.

On the way to Dnepropetroesk it was 31 degrees as you can see (32 C = 90 F) Jonah and Seth are excited to get the braces off--- they say it feels funny to have them off. Here they are going into the office- the clinic is called Angeldent, with the sign is both languages, but most people working there know very little English. Business names in English are popular, many stores downtown have the name of the store in English.
This morning I booked the boys' plane tickets for Winnipeg- they will go on June 13, so they have to work hard to finish up school...as long as Jonah can keep his nose out of his ebook reader!
