This morning Garry's alarm went off when it was still dark (the sun is up earlier every day- but not at three am) He made a pot of coffee and headed off to Kiev. He phoned around 8 to say he was about an hour away from Borispol- he was meeting someone at the airport. No flat tires, and he had seen a stork sitting in its nest(they are often on top of telephone pole or rooftops near Kiev and the western part of Ukraine, but we have not seen any near here.) He told me that it was clear and the stars were shining when he left home but he had driven through some showers. He said he saw a tractor in the field near Kiev, it seemed like there had been less rain over there.
Here in the village, the lights got turned on alot as the boys worked (very hard for a change) on schoolwork. It seemed a shower came over every hour - sometimes it rained rather hard, including both times the boys went for a walk to the store- "the sun was shining when we left"- Jonah said "and when we were as far as we could be from home"- they had walked to the second store- "it started to rain."
This afternoon the sky darkened and it sounded like it was raining hard (I had opened one of the kitchen window- just at the top to let in some fresh air) I took a couple pictures from the window little balls of ice were pelting the ground for more thean 5 minutes. It is getting really muddy outside- the little upslope through the machinery shed is impossible to walk on- the guys put down a gangplank last week when I took the photo it was much less muddy than today- today you really need it. I had told Garry when it was icey last month that we should make some cement steps there- the ladies always walk through that way to go to the barn- the driveway is firmer to walk on because of the slag than the yard when its wet.
Even Mooshka and Needles who love to go outside, have been reluctant to head out the door today since its cool and wet everytime they poke out their heads. Needles has been trying to sit in the kitten basket- the kittens sometimes are all out playing, but this afternoon he climbed in with then and played Mama cat even grooming them. The boys and I are going to move the little guys out to the shed in the morning, so Mooshka can come on go through the cat hole. It will be a little less crazy in here with just Needles and Box to chase my crocheting yarn.
Late this afternoon the load of fertilizer arrived- when I called Garry to ask what would arrive by truck in bags, he told me, "oh, but I thought it wasn't coming. Good." Victor arrived about the same time, to tell Maxim how to take the wall apart for the milkhouse- the milk tank is coming Tuesday afternoon while Garry is gone instead of Friday when he's back. Hopefully it gets put in the way he wants it!
