manure spreading and milk sales

The first corn plants are poking up from the field across the highway!

Yesterday the guys got the second manure spreader they borrowed running for one load, this morning Maxim was fixing it some more. The first spreader had sat unused since the guy bought it and had no chains. This one broke a chain on that first load, and Max did some welding on the wheel that controls the table chain (the thing that goes around to move the manure out of the spreader). As you can see the spreader looks a lot like the precept with beaters- high off the ground and narrow.

There is a photo of Max going out with the first load this afternoon. They had Serosia loading with his payloader (same one that packed the silage this week) and Garry went out to the field with the precept at the same time and dumped his in a pile, later they took the payloader and filled the manure spreader and spread it on the field- after the manure was all gone from behind the barn. Friday morning they will disc up the field and the corn will be planted in that field soon.
By the way manure spreading smells even from a few cows- for people who think the little family farm is superior- it's not just liquid manure that smells! I was hanging out the sheets at noon and you could smell it in the air- but sheets don't smell now that they are back on the bed!

Today's high was 23 C and there were thundershowers in the forecast, and clouds that looked like rain but none has fallen yet (yesterday it rained twice and still the jeans got dry on the clothesline.)However Garry put the sprinkler on the garden after he planted more sweetcorn today, so maybe it will get growing.

The curtain was raised up this morning for more air through the barn this morning- one of calves discovered it could go outside in the sunshine.

Garry is seriously looking into becoming a registered business and selling to Danone since he gets tired of selling milk, but not getting paid more often than not. Seems like maxim and Victor are always having to call and find out if anyone is coming to buy milk and when and how much- hopefully the tank gets empty again on Friday.
