Saturday

The only problem with the new mower it the instruction book is in Polish- so no one here can read it. The mower is Polish but either English or Russian would be more useful. Garry went around the rye field with the mover on the back of the Belarus (by the way did you know our Belarus tractors are blue because they are made in Ukraine? same blue as the Ukrainian flag- we had a Belarus when we lived in Ontario and it was orange)anyway he decided the tractor was a little too big for the mower so they used the neighbor's little tractor to cut the rest. Garry says that you can see where the fertilizer missed getting on parts of the field when it was spread this spring. He plans to plant corn in this field after the rye is off it (I was wondering what they were going to do with all the seed and fertilzer that was left.)

Garry worked on the chopper again today, he pulled it out from under the shed, luckily he found the bolts he bought for it- he remembered putting them in an old McDonald's cup when he bought them earlier in the week and was afraid he had accidently thrown it away (it had no spare shear bolts when he did the corn silage last fall and he is afraid he won't be as lucky with the rye- none broke then.) Jonah helped him get the spout up this afternoon.

We had another new customer for brewers' grain today- they brought the whole family as you can see in the photo. Garry says its a good way to meet people and help the people with a few animals feed them better. He also bred two cows for people in the village, he says he charges 100 grivna, which is the same as the fee for the village bull (before someone ate him) with repeat breeding on the same cow half price (apparently it was free for the bull.)

Maxim did some more welding on the "new precept" (wagon) he still has some work before it has sides so they will have two wagons for chopping the rye. Garry thinks the rye won't be ready to chop until Tuesday since there is rain in the Sunday forecast.

We had visitors today- Sasha and Valya came out from Dnepro by marshuhka- here they are touring the barn after lunch. Valya was in my English class last summer, they are Christians and hope to go study at university in Poland next year if they can raise the funds for tuition. They have been exchanging postcards with people around the world through an internet website, and brought some to show us- they have recieved 42 so far this year.

I will be getting more sleep now since I won't be getting up at 3 am to watch the hockey playoffs anymore. I can watch the replays all day now that my team is out of it.

Maxim went to church in Zaporosia tonight- they have a Saturday evening service there. Seth and Jonah stayed home as Jonah is feeling a little sick again today. They did help feed the cows and bring in the cows as they went past the gate this evening- the cows and the boys are getting better at this, so less people are needed to find our girls and get them up the driveway and into the barn- most of the group spend the night in the pen, a couple get tied up in stalls. I took some pet pictures after the cows ones, while I was taking down the dry laundry. Needles the cat was climbing trees and hiding in the flowers- Mint was hunting for him.
