The two teams arrived Friday evening, we had thought they were arriving together, then earlier in the week we got a message that seemed to indicate the BC team was going to be on the afternoon plane. Victor went to meet them, but they didn't get off that one, eventually we confirmed that they would all be coming together from Kiev.
Meanwhile Eugene was working hard. I made some supper around 7 pm, since it was just the two of us at home, Garry had gone in early to pick up some supplies and teach English. Max popped in and asked if Victor had come, and if Eugene was in around six. I said he was still on the work site. It had been a nice afternoon, sunny, and the snow was starting to turn into mud on the path to the house.
At 7:30 I heard a delivery truck come in, and realized it was snowing. In fact, an inch had fallen already, Max, Eugene, and one student Nikolai unloaded the whole truck.
The teams did not arrive in the village until 11 pm. They had gone to Mc Donalds to eat after landing in Dnepro, and had a slow drive out with snow coming down making the road slippery. They unloaded quickly and Victor headed back to Dnepro, since it took both vans to bring out nine people and 27 suitcases. It was after midnight before everyone was in bed. The last thing heard was breakfast at seven am.
However, I was cooking oatmeal by 6:30, because some of the guys were up very early. They went out after breakfast and devotions.
Jeremy (electrician) headed to Zaporosia with Max's brother Artem for supplies right away, while Garry drove Jack and Neil to Dnepro to look for baltic birch plywood to make the kitchen cabinets. Garry had seen some for sale weeks ago, but they were unable to find any. We are now buying prefab cabinets for the kitchen.
They were back for lunch (except Jack) although we started without Garry while he helped unload yet another delivery truck. After soup and sandwiches they were out the door to work. Neil went to help Doug with building shelves in the storage room in the classroom, since his cabinets are now out of the plan. Two years in the making we're finally going to be able to organize the extra clothing and stuff in there. Doug had cleaned it out in the morning.
Marcie was busy prepping prizes and crafts for the dVBS or the camp that came out of her suitcase for Monday. I was cooking, taking the occasional photo and patching up Ed, who cut himself on the metal profile three times and came in bleeding for washing, applying antibiotic cream and band-aids. I finally got smart and found him some protective gloves and sent them out with Jack.
Just as Peter said he was out of metal profile for framing another delivery truck arrived with it. By dinnertime they were even starting to do insulation in some walls. Right after dinner, Artem was back to drive Jeremy back to Zap for more electrical supplies.
Then as usual Jeremy missed the excitement (like when the car caught on fire last year) .
A drunk guy crashed his car into the brace and the cement hydro (electric) pole outside the house bu the road around 8 pm. Sparks flew everywhere, all the lights went out, when it came back on, half the house was without power and lights, one phase is out. Max actually cut the wire because he was worried someone would be electrocuted with it on the ground. In fact, the drunk guy came close, he got out of his car, head bleeding to pee, right next to the live wire.
Luckily, the heat, water and internet still work. Ten people here from Canada and most of them can't turn on lights.
Time sprang forward Sunday at 2 am, so when Jeremy got home at 11 pm it was really about midnight... but he could get a shower.
