Early Sunday morning Garry drove the van with Eugene and a number of students who wanted to go to Kirvoy Rog (where many of them are from) so they could attend church there and go to our former students Julia (Yulia) and Dima's wedding. It was supposed to be the Sunday before, and I would have gone with them then, but it was postponed. Eugene had flown in early for it because he and Julia really bonded when he was here two previous years on building teams, she's like another daughter for him.
It was a long slow drive because the roads are getting worse with all the freezing weather, melting snow, freezing weather, more falling snow and melting this spring. The road between there and Dnepro is never good at any time.
Garry and Eugene attended the church service at 11 with the wedding ceremony at noon. Garry said someone even preached in English. Julia looks so made up in the photos you can almost not recognize her. Garry said her bubbly personality was the same as always.
Meanwhile the rest of the team members were here with me, after breakfast we walked down to the village church for the service. Nelly had stayed home and was kind enough to translate the sermon for everyone. After church we had a make your own sandwich meal, and some of the guys napped while others got some work done. The electric stuff is a priority as Jeremy is only here one week (he is a licensed electrician from BC).
We had a meeting for those helping with the daily VBS or camp at the school this week, so we'd be organized on Monday. It was first time the Canadian VBS team members got to meet the students and staff members they would be working with. We even have a young lady here who came from Kamenskoya just to help Jack with the opening singing and English, she came to the Lord as a child at one of his village camps while visiting her grandmother. Two of our students met Jack as young boys in an orphanage, now one is teaching the Bible lessons for the VBS and the other is leading sports time.
Meanwhile, Garry, Eugene and a couple of the girls were at the reception, eating lots of goodies. The boys who went with them walked around the city visiting before returning by 4:30 so they could drive home in the van. They got home around eight pm after stopping to pick up Jeremy's nightly supply of more electrical stuff for Monday. Jeremy says in three years it was the first time he was able to find out what we do at night while he's at the Nova Lene store.
By the time the wedding guests and students returned we were finished with dinner and playing card games, except Neil, who retires early so he can wake up long before everyone else. Maybe not, but he was sitting on the Mennonite couch in the dark staring at Jack who was sleeping on the opposite couch at 4:30 am Monday morning.
