Easter weekend #1

This past week it was Easter in North America, while here in Ukraine, it was Pussy Willow Sunday (you may think of it as Palm Sunday). Every year Easter is celebrated on a different week, depending on full moons and when Passover is. The Orthodox church computes this differently, so Easter in Ukraine is only occasionally the same Sunday. It can be a difference of several weeks, but this year it's only a week later, so look for part two next week.

We actually celebrated Easter dinner with the family in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with a big group chat at one pm, noon, and for us nine pm.  It was a little later dinner than normal (often Garry heads to bed at nine, but lots of fun. I made scalloped potatoes, ham, rolls, deviled eggs and green bean casserole, Valentina ate with us. We talked, and most of us ate, for an hour. The hour before Garry had a call with his dad and brothers and sisters on zoom, it's their quarantine catch up that they are all enjoying.

Sunday around noon Alona phoned to say she needed pampers (all disposable diapers here are called pampers) so Garry and I took a trip to the Nova Lenya to buy some and get some more plumbing parts to connect the sink. I took some photos along the way, but I missed getting one of the elderly couple walking along the street as we went into the city. They were bundled up, wearing masks, pushing a bicycle, and herding three goats.

police car window has a notice about the virus

Anybody want to buy masks?

We also stopped at the vetaptenka (vet drugstore) for some copper sulfate to treat the foot of a limping fresh cow Garry checked out before we left. She has foot rot.

We thought we had bought everything he needed, because he brought the faucet with us, and we did find the part we were looking for, but Victor had to go buy a couple more parts Monday evening. If you buy a expensive faucet from Europe you need a reducer to get it connected to a standard Ukrainian pipe, every time we do a house Garry says he'll buy the Ukrainian one, because it's hard to find that part, but he never does.

Work has slowed on the house build as the only things left to do are ones we are waiting on parts for, the roof metal for the entryway and the laminate that is on order to finish the floor. Saturday I wiped down the tile I grouted.

They have been working on connecting the plumbing inside and out this week, with trenches being dug for the water lines from the cistern to the pump and then to the house. and the septic pipes going down in the trench that was dug earlier.
